Bochnia Salt Mine
The Bochnia Salt Mine at Campi 15 runs a tourist route that drops visitors by a mining lift, carries them on an underground train, and ends in the Ważyn chamber. The school catalogue times that multimedia route at about 3 hours. A longer version adds a boat through a brine-flooded corridor and runs about 4 hours.
Three ways down, not one tour
The mine’s school catalogue for 2026/2027, published by Kopalnia Soli Bochnia, is the document that describes what a visit contains. The tourist route with a multimedia exhibition is listed for every age of school group. The ticket includes the ride down in the mining lift, the underground train, the multimedia exhibition, and time in the Ważyn chamber. The catalogue puts the stay at about 3 hours. The text calls it a story of the power of salt, told with holograms and projections. A second product adds an underground boat crossing of a corridor flooded with brine, after the multimedia rooms, and then the same Ważyn chamber. That version is about 4 hours. For school groups the catalogue sets it from age 3 upward. The boat is described as the quiet, different face of the mine, once the historical show is over.
A third route, “Solny Świadek”, is marked as new and is limited to class VII, class VIII and secondary schools. You walk down the stairs rather than taking the lift as the headline of the visit. The catalogue sends this group into the oldest workings, in raw corridors that are not the daily tourist path, with the traces of old miners’ work, then the underground train and the Ważyn chamber. It takes about 4 hours. The sales text says the group wears full mining kit and follows a guide through narrow passages, and that part of it is geology and physics in an underground laboratory. A 140-metre underground slide is listed as available from age 9. It is an add-on, not the definition of any of the three routes.
Stairs, a brine boat, and a night at 250 metres
The multimedia-route page states the air in the mine at 15–17°C and the humidity at 70%. Descent and the way back up use the mining lift, and the same page says about 700 stairs still wait on the tourist route. It calls this the oldest rock-salt mine in Poland and says the tourist route is sold in four variants of different difficulty. The pages checked name three of them: the multimedia circuit, that circuit plus the boat, and, in the school catalogue, Solny Świadek. The multimedia show runs from the Middle Ages to the present. On the way it names Polish kings, Genoese managers of the salt works, and the ghost of a Cistercian. Part of the walk is the mining train. The Ważyn chamber is called the largest in Bochnia. The page puts a restaurant, a sports field and a children’s playground in it.
The boat version crosses a working flooded with brine at 230 metres underground, and the mine calls that crossing the only one of its kind in Poland. It is listed from age 3. The basic multimedia route starts at the Campi shaft, ul. Campi 15. If you choose the variant that uses Końska Droga, the same page says a weekday visit, Monday to Friday, starts at the Sutoris shaft, ul. Solna 2, not at Campi.
The school catalogue also offers a night underground at 250 metres, for every school age, with the option of a meal. A group that does not hire bedding brings its own sleeping bags. The phone on the price-list page is 14 692 67 52 and the email is biuro@kopalnia-bochnia.pl.
FAQ
Is the mine step-free, and how do I get to Campi 15?
The pages checked do not describe a step-free route. The multimedia route uses a mining lift and an underground train. “Solny Świadek” is a walk down stairs into narrow passages, so it is a different access problem. No bus line, stop or walking time is printed. The address is ul. Campi 15, 32-700 Bochnia. Phone 14 692 67 52, biuro@kopalnia-bochnia.pl.
Which route includes the boat, and how long is it?
The multimedia route is about 3 hours: mining lift, underground train, multimedia exhibition, Ważyn chamber. Adding the underground boat through a brine-flooded corridor makes it about 4 hours. School groups may book that boat version from age 3. “Solny Świadek”, about 4 hours, is from class VII and uses the stairs into the oldest workings. A 140-metre slide is available from age 9 and is not part of every ticket.
Why is there no single adult price?
The mine sells on a moving scale. Online is cheaper than the desk, and buying earlier is cheaper than buying late. Online sales stop 60 minutes before the route. If online seats are gone, the desk sells before the descent. School prices in the 2026/2027 catalogue are fixed by season: PLN 45 or PLN 47 for the multimedia route, PLN 66 or PLN 68 with the boat. An underground night at 250 metres adds bedding at PLN 24 if you do not bring a sleeping bag.
